LEAVE THE CURRENT FILE SYSTEM INTACT - (NO CHANGES)
Symptom 04.
Symptom: <windows Root>\system32\HAL.DLL
Reason:
vThe above symptom says that the file "HAL.DLL" is missing or corrupted.
v By seeing the above symptom we think that 2st repair/up gradation of O.S can be performed.
v But due to more than 1 or 1000'8 of files has got corrupted the 2nd repair/upgradation of O.S step will be skipped.
v We can view the harddisk partitions.
v By seeing the above symptom, many will format the partitions.
v But we should not format because we may have data in
§ Destop
§ C-Drive
§ My Documents
v So to avoid the formatting of partitions we have one last option.
i.e. [LEAVE THE CURRENT FILE SYSTEM INTACT {NO CHANGE}]

By performing the above operation we can successfully save the data.
Note: Drivers & Software will be lost.
Step to Perform "LEAVE THE CURRENT FILE SYSTEM INTACT {NO CHANGE}"
v Insert the windows XP bootable CD & restart
v Press any key to boot from CD ......
v Set up is loading the files.
v We can see 3 options.
§ Enter = continue
§ [R=Repair/1st Repair/Recovery console mode]
§ F3=Quit.
v Press Enter = continue
v Press F8 to accept Liecence Agreement.
v Now the hard disk partitions can be viewed.
v Choose [C-Partition] (don't delete)
↓
Press ENTER= INSTALL
↓
Choose [LEAVE THE CURRENT FILE SYSTEM INTACT {NO CHANGE}]
↓
Press [ENTER=CONTINUE]
↓
NNow again 3 options can be viewed.
§ [L= Delete]
It delete/removes the old operating system & re-installs the new operating system without formatting.
v § [ESC = Different Folder]
It keeps the old operating system & install the new operating system in a different folder without formatting.
§ F3=Quit.
Press [L= Delete]
It deletes/removes the old operating system & re-installs the new operating system without formating.
Now the set up copies the files 100%.

Restart
↓
Don't press any key.
↓
Wait for the Bill board/GUI mode to appear on the screen.
↓
Provide the product key & complete the installations by providing some basic information.
